Would my acne decrease after taking one pill of accutane?
I just started a course of accutane this evening and after taking my first pill I’m starting to have regrets because of all the potential side effects. I might just stop because I fell kinda weird…although it’s prob my anxiety. Would my acne deacrease after taking only one pill? and how long before this pill is out of my system?
note: the pill is 40mg of isotretinoin.

it’s true that there is a long list of side effects that comes along with accutane. however, the chances that you will experience any severe side effects is quite rare. you will most likely have dry lips, dry skin, dry nose that may lead to nosebleeds, and occasional joint/back pain. these side effects can be dealt with. for dry lips, use aquaphor, vaseline, and/or nivea kiss of moisture (in the dark blue tube). for dry skin, cetaphil moisturizing cream (in the tub) can be used on the face and body and works very well. to prevent nosebleeds, use a nasal spray such as ayr saline nasal mist (non-medicated) once or twice a day. if you experience joint or back pain, you can take ibuprofen, but stay away from painkillers containing acetaminophen during your course. also, it’s normal if you experience headaches the first few days you take accutane, but if they continue you should contact your derm. one 40mg pill of accutane will not really do much. i know accutane stays in your system for about a month when you’ve been taking it on a regular basis. i don’t know if that would be any different if you just took one pill. if you do have severe acne (which i assume you do, since accutane is a last resort drug) and really want to get rid of it, i would highly recommend that you keep taking it. i’m on my fourth month (out of five) of a generic accutane called claravis and it has been working great for me. i had severe nodular acne when i started my course and noticed improvement by the end of the first month. my skin is ninety-nine percent at this point. the only side effects i’ve experienced are the ones i listed above. ultimately the decision to take accutane is up to you and depends on how much you really want your acne to clear. good luck with your course if you choose to continue it.
