What can I do to stop adult acne?

Has anyone with adult acne been sucessful at stopping it or at least controlling it. I have a very mild case of Acne, but it is the worst kind of Acne. I get these inflamed, little red cyst on my back and butt, that leave hyperpigmentation marks when they heal. I went to a dermatologist but they only give you something to heal the cyst you already have. Time the cyst heals I have another one to deal with. This acne is having a real psychological effect on me.

There is no way to stop acne. Use pro active it prevents acne from appearing and it gets rid of the ones that are showing
Like you, I never had proper acne as a teenager but started getting it when I was 29. At 32 I had an ovary removed because of a cyst and the acne cleared up. I got another bout of it years later at menopause so I think it must be hormone-driven. Stress would help to make you spotty too, but your problem sounds like mine. Spots were big and very painful, more like boils than ordinary pimples with a core. They were under the skin rather than raised and contained just watery pus and blood. They left a deep hole which took ages to heal up and scarred. I think your doctor could give you a wide-spectrum antibiotic for acne to look after you for the time being. When your insurance kicks in, go to a specialist and get it sorted out.

PS Baking powder scrub might help to some degree and then again might aggravate your skin. Dabs of white toothpaste on beginner zit stage overnight calms them down. Rinse off in the morning. Never gel toothpaste!
Are you washing your sheets and pajamas every 5 days? Change washing detergent to fragrant free as well as the dryer sheets. Could be your shower soap/gel wash too.

This sounds like it might be more like contact folliculitis than “adult acne”. It sounds like you may (possibly) have been misdiagnosed. In order to be sure, you would need to have one of the “cysts” cultured to determine the bacteria (or possibly even fungus) causing the infection. If it’s true acne, then it would be the Propionibacterium acnes bacterium, and a salicylic acne wash should help to prevent to the occurrence. An oral antibiotic would also help to prevent the occurrence of the breakout. Unless the cysts are numerous, however, this would be overkill. Because of the area of the body involved and your description, this sounds more typical of folliculitis. If the culture comes back as a different type of bacteria or fungus, then it’s folliculitis, and a different treatment would be necessary.
Once the follicles are injured, they are more likely to become infected. Folliculitis can develop on any part of the body, although it is most likely to occur where clothing rubs against the body, such as the arms, thighs, and buttocks.
When an infection of the follicle goes deeper, it becomes a boil or furuncle. A group of closely packed boils create a larger lesion called a carbuncle. These lesions tend to occur in hairy, sweaty areas of the body.
Whatever the cause, avoid using oily soaps or body washes on this area of your body; these may cause acne/folliculitis to recur, particularly in people more prone to it. Keeping skin clean, dry, and free from abrasions or irritation can help prevent infection. If you shave this area of your back or butt to keep body hair controlled, that can irritate the hair follicle and cause infection. Using a medicated shampoo or body wash can help prevent this.
The spread of infection can be prevented by not repeating your use of towels or washcloths and by using bleach and hot water when washing your linens. If the infection does not go away, an antibiotic or antifungal cream will usually clear up the condition. A medicated body powder, like Gold Bond, may help keep the area dry and keep it from itching.
