Question by Avocado: Do I have more testosterone than the average woman?
I was talking to my stepmother, and she worked in cosmetology for decades. Incidentally, I’m not the biggest expert on cosmetology. I can put on make-up really well and I know how to dress to look good, but I honestly don’t know anything about classifications of body types or skin colorings or whatever.

Anyways, she told me that I have more testosterone than the average woman. I’m not insulted by it at all, but it made me curious.

-I’m taller than the average woman (5’8″ – I used to be an inch shorter but I grew in the past couple of years). I’m actually the tallest person in my family except for my father, who’s exactly my height most of the time since I wear heels on a semi-regular basis. He could also just be getting shorter with age, but I can’t know for sure since I only see him maybe once a year.
-I’m fairly athletic and have a lot of stamina (I do intense cardio workout for an hour each day, such as swimming, running, and elliptical; plus I do weights every other day)
-I’m not very curvy. I have a tapered waist and hips, but significantly less so than most of the women in my life. I have a long torso and longish limbs. I’m generally on the slim side, so the lack of curves don’t really get noticed (especially since I wear a lot of high-waisted things, which make me look curvier than I actually am).
-I have broad shoulders. I tend to look GREAT in vintage clothing from the 1940′s for that specific reason, but it’s hard to find modern-made tops and dresses that fit my shoulders without being tight on them. It’s not a bad thing.
-I don’t gain weight as easily as other people, and I lose it really quickly when I do gain. And when I do gain, I don’t gain it in certain areas of the body, but it sort of evens out all over.
-I sweat a lot, though I don’t have body odor problems. This could also be because I’m a physically active person, but it does seem like I look like I’ve had a harder workout than I did after I’m done, due to all the sweat I accumulate.
-I had acne problems in high school and early college, which is apparently a sign of high testosterone (or so I’ve heard). However, it eventually cleared up and now I don’t really have problems with it
-My periods are pretty light, and last only a few days
-I have…um…”confrontational tendencies” at times, though I’m not trashy about it.
-My daily caloric demands are higher than most women I know, though that could be a result of higher-than-average physical activity, which results in a higher metabolism. However, it always seemed to me that I could eat as much as I want without gaining weight, at least for most of my life.
-I have small breasts. Seriously, I’m 5’8″ and a size 4-6, with a 34-inch ribcage, but my breasts constantly stay at an A-cup. Once in a while, they will expand to a B-cup, but I have to either be having my period or I’ve been eating more than usual.
-And this last fact might gross some of you out: I have a few hairs that grow on my chest and sides of my face. They aren’t that noticeable and it’s not like I LOOK like a man (in fact, to most people, I look like a pretty woman), but I pluck them because I find them a little unsightly. My mother (who I inherited my physical build from) gets the same thing.

I know this is a lot to read, but if you were able to get all of that, I would appreciate some feedback. I’m pretty curious about it.

One last note: Please don’t take this question to indicate that I’m self-conscious or have body image issues. I feel confident in how I look, I’m just curious.
I got my thyroid checked, and it’s perfectly normal. I mean, it’s not like there’s anything physically WRONG with me. I’m just curious about my own hormonal constitution.
I have curly hair, too! I can’t straighten it, though.

Best answer:

Answer by Steve B
prob do…………….may need to get it tested along w/thyroid and estradiol………..

What causes acne? Is there other treatments other than pills on the market that works 100% effective. Is there any laser treatments out there that can treat the cause of acne?

Best answer:

Answer by Hawkster
Usually the cause is oily skin, especially during the teenage years. I used to wash my face every day with Ivory soap. It’s 99.44 percent pure soap, so it’ll dry your skin out. Then, whenever I had a small breakout, I would use a tinted acne medicine, like Oxy 10. Worked like a charm.

An age old question — and I for one believe that filipinas are superior — but I wondered what other people thought.

As for me, I grew up in an average American high school that brainwashed me into thinking that busty, blond haired, blue eyed white girls were the ideal, and now I see that was bunk. Ever since I first visited the Philippines, I saw that filipinas are the ideal. Take my filipina wife, for example — 4’10″, 85 lbs, perfect dark brown skin, big fat luscious lips, long straight black hair, tiny firm breasts, flat butt, slim hips, and narrow shoulders. Best yet, even when she’s 40 she’ll pass for 18. Who wouldn’t want that over these fat, ugly, acne covered American women with big sloppy breasts that sag down to their knees by the time they’re 16? It’s disgraceful that my filipina wife can’t fit into clothes made for these American cows unless the store has a size 00, which they usually don’t, in which case she needs to get clothes from the children’s department!

Combine these lovely petite creatures with their natural curiosity for and attraction to big strong American men and you’ve got a perfect combo ready to populate the world with beautiful fil-am children! I guess that’s too bad for filipino men, who unfortunately don’t have ideal male characteristics, but that’s evolution I suppose.

Let’s just say I have no attraction to American women anymore. What do other people think?

Ok so I know that you’re supposed to wash your face twice a day, but is it ok if i wash my face 3 or 4 times a day? It’s not like i have acne or anything, I just like to be clean, i especially like my face to be clean. I mostly use Biore cleanser, but sometimes i’ll use Clean and Clear or another acne prevention cleanser. I’m 15 by the way, if it makes a difference lol.
Also, does it matter if you wash your face with warm or cold water? I mean, obviously warm water feels better and is more relaxing, but is warm or cold water better for your skin?

I was pondering the subject of skin care, and i just got a thought, are men more prone to acne than women, or do they just cover it up with makeup, whereas guys just let it be.

Thoughts?
I’m surprised to hear that green, i really thought boys/men had more acne

Probably just thought so because girls cover their breakouts with makeup.

I think men probably have worse breakouts, you almost never see a girl with a giant red bumpy face.
Cutegirl: actually, we DO care about our acne, we just dont’ show it, as we’ll most likely be accused of being some sissy gay dude for caring about their appearance.
Actually la belle, you’d be surprised that shaving does not hurt acne, i’ve shaved over severe acne patches, for some reason it doesn’t bother it, even if it is sticking out and all red and pointy.

Shaving actually HELPS acne, it get sthe hair follicles out of the way so the skin can breathe, plus alot of aftershaves have calming balms and anti inflammatories, because, after all, were pressing razor sharp blades to our face!

If you’re suffering from hard, painful, cystic acne, you’ve probably tried treatments that don’t really work all that well just to get rid of the pain. And while some of the treatments you’ve tried might be effective for regular acne, chances are they won’t work on cysts. Cystic acne is hard to get rid of because it comes from deep within the skin, not necessarily an outside skin source. Thus, you need a cystic acne treatment that will take care of the problem from the inside and on the outside.

1. Sulfur acne treatment care: One of the best ways to get rid of cysts is to purchase an inexpensive sulfur treatment cream online. They’re not sold in high volume at places like Target or Walmart for some reason, but places like Proactiv carry them and even give them away as free bonuses when you get their cleansing kits. You wouldn’t use the sulfur every day, but more as a topical necessity.

2. SkinMedica body acne treatment: SkinMedica’s acne cleansing system isn’t just for your face. You can use these benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid products on your face, back, chest, and arms. It’s very effective on cystic acne as well as regular acne, so it works for whatever zits you might be suffering from at any time of the month.

3. Holistic acne remedy: Whether you’re suffering from hormonal acne or just plain acne vulgaris, holistic acne treatments are often the best at getting rid of cysts because they work from the inside out. Often, just using external treatments aren’t enough, so a holistic acne approach is usually what is needed, as opposed to going and getting pills at the doctor’s office that often cause scars and wreak havoc on the rest of your body.

It’s better if you try out a holistic cystic acne treatment than a pill, partially because it’s less expensive, non-addictive, and safe for your body. It works fast and produces long-term results, not just short-term quick fixes. You can find out more about holistic acne treatments at http://www.easyskintreatment.com/acnefree. Plus, when you sign up for a free e-letter, you’ll also get to download the e-book, “How to Kill Your Acne,” which is a very helpful and informative read for anyone suffering from acne.

The first and the foremost point to be remembered in the treatment of acne is not to panic. Whiteheads or blackheads will have to be treated with a cool head! No doubt, acne on the face is bound to cause a confusing contour in the curtain of your mind, but desperate remedies are not the solutions for desperate situations.

A basic understanding of the acne situation in each individual case requires a thorough study. Fortunately or unfortunately, the literature and expertise regarding the treatment options available are likely to be confounded! A mountain of literature about the molehill that is acne!

Let it be perfectly understood that total cure of acne is an impossibility. If someone, some product or some company- national or multinational promises it, take it as a business advertisement! They dwell upon it, because they have to sell. And all the selling is done at somebody’s cost!

If the golden rule, an ounce of prevention is better than a cure, is to be applied anywhere, apply it here; and apply it with profit. What is your basic formula for skin care? If it is no new spots, improved skin condition and making efforts to deny future scarring, you are on the right track! You have understood your acne! Personal treatment for a universal disease!

Human skin needs a certain amount of oil to maintain its natural condition. And when it comes to acne skin, skin care becomes even more important. Keep the spot-prone areas clean. Wash the affected area twice a day with a perfume free cleanser. Note that aggressive washing and strong soaps are big enemies of your acne skin.

Plus, hundreds of over-the-counter remedies are available with your chemist. The anti-bacterial agents in them, like benzoyl peroxide will help you a great deal to defeat acne. The skin areas where you feel that the spot is likely to emerge, must be kept clean. In effect, these agents dry out the skin and encourage it to shed the surface layer of dead skin. These effects make it harder for pores to become blocked and infection does not spread. When the antibacterial effects dry out the skin, the surface layer of the skin begins to fall. The pores are not blocked and infection is checked.

No treatment will tender on the spot results. Significant effects, if they materialize hopefully, will take their own time. If results are not forthcoming, say within a period of two months, then it the time to switch over the treatment after consulting a dermatologist. At this stage, he has many options depending upon your case-history and his understanding of the problem, after certain investigations, if necessary. He has an armory of treatment options- both for external application and internal consumption.

And finally, do not fail to consult your Grandma! That walking ‘encyclopedia’ may have unfailing solutions!

For all those who love their beautiful and radiant skin, there are some very simple yet very effective ways to keep that skin clear and acne-free as well. Acne or acne vulgaris in medical parlance is a skin condition characterized by the eruption of small to medium sized lesions on the surface of the skin. Usually the result of increased oil production, acne often appears on the skin on the face during adolescence and tends to go away on its own.

Adult acne on the other hand, is also the result of increased production of sebum or natural oil from tiny glands in the skin called the sebaceous glands. What usually happens is that the pores get clogged and the whole thing simply erupts. It is a chain reaction- inflammation follows after the clogging, and the anaerobic bacteria begin to spread on the surface of the face.

In more severe cases, arms as well as the chest are afflicted with acne. Treatment is in the form of OTC or over the counter medication (topical and oral) and prescription medication from registered health practitioners.

4 Easy Steps to Acne-Free Skin

Preventive measures are often the best ways to take care of the skin. If you don’t have acne yet, then that’s great news, you can prevent that from happening. If you already have acne, the following steps would help your skin heal faster, alongside an effective and safe treatment of your acne. Remember to always consult with a doctor if you are unsure if something might irritate your skin or aggravate the condition of the acne.

1. Moisturizers help ease chaffed and itchy skin, especially acne-ridden skin. Though moisturizers help in relieving symptoms of itchy skin, always use moisturizers that have the least amount of oil present. Remember that adding oil to the sum total already present on your skin can backlash, leading to more lesions.

2. As for makeup, make sure that you use the proper creams to completely remove your makeup at the end of the day. Never, ever make the mistake of sleeping with all your makeup still on because you felt too lazy to wash them off. Dried, caked makeup is a hotbed for more acne. Take note that if you pores get more clogged, you increase the chances of getting acne.

3. Keep your brushes clean. This should be the same also for the various sponges that you use to apply your makeup. Sponges and brushes, dry as they may be, still harbor bacteria. Washing them properly with soapy water decreases the bacteria level and lessens the chances of aggravating already tender skin.

4. If your acne is not improving with OTC or over the counter medications you are currently using, you really have to consult with a dermatologist. A dermatologist would be able to run the necessary tests to see where the acne is coming from.

If all ends well, but the OTC treatments still fail, a specially formulated oral antibiotic regimen might be prescribed to treat your acne. Never take chances with your skin- consult the right doctors when you think an OTC medication has done something to your skin.

Acne is a common problem to people especially to youngsters and is true as well for adults. Numerous treatment options for acute cases are recommended but it is better to see a dermatologist in your area before conducting any treatment possible.

Generally, acne starts at the age of puberty and can even last longer in years. In some cases it even reaches the age of adulthood. Initially, it is important to try everyday skin care hygiene to stop the development of acne. It is necessary to now have a talk to a dermatologist before the problem gets worse. Its far better to consult a doctor if you already notice even a little problem arising, otherwise scarring takes place. Prevention from scarring is better even if there are treatment options available.

Prior to choosing an acne treatment option, essential considerations should be followed such as the quantity of acne present, how acute is the acne, what is the cause of your acne, prevention of acne formation, scarring prevention, acne during pregnancy and breastfeeding stage. These stated cases may precisely affect your acne treatment selection.

Acne treatment is categorized into three methods: over-the-counter drugs or creams, oral drugs, and hormone therapy.

We can purchase over-the-counter drugs in most drugstores and groceries even without prescriptions. A few of the over-the-counter medications are facial cleansers. The salicylic acid content of these cleansers helps to slough skin cells off and unclog the pores.

People are of different sizes and of different skin types. Most of the time however, individuals having sensitive skin are much prone to acne. This is the reason why special daily caring and cleansing is very essential. Thus, have a skin care regimen with a total understanding of the contents and functions so as not to further irritate your acne.

Choosing beauty products that are specifically for acne is better since some of these products have dye contents and perfumes that could seriously aggravate blemishes. Minerals such as zinc and vitamins A, C, and E help in the improvement of the condition and over-all skin health. And so, eat foods that are rich with these vitamins and minerals to grow your skin well and promote a good health.

Sulfur rich foodstuffs like garlic and onions are known to help diminish acne blemishes. On the other hand, fried foods, sugar and those that contain high fat should be eaten with moderation. Yet total avoidance intake of sweet carbonated beverages can decrease acne blemishes.

Moreover, people who suffer from acne should pay careful attention on skin care and total skin cleaning to avoid perfumed derma products. The following are a few tips on the things you should and should not do:

1.Clean your skin carefully with warm water along with a natural mild facial cleanser. Do the cleansing twice or thrice a day since skin oils, contaminants, and dirt easily clog the pores.

2.Choosing cosmetics that are oil-free is necessary. Ordinary beauty products have large quantity of fatty acids which blocks the skin pores as well.

3.Remember to not over wash your skin which means no to excessive scrubbing since it won’t eliminate your acne.

4.It is recommended to use skin toners for extra cleaning but don’t overuse them.

One must consider the foods they eat especially for acne patients. Careful beauty product choices must be taken into consideration as well. These precautions are not just for acne but for any skin or health condition, knowledge plays on a significant improvement role and that an ounce of prevention is absolutely far better than a pound of treatment.

Acne and our teen years seem to go hand-in-hand but fortunately many who had to suffer through acne as an adolescent no longer have problems as they get older. On the other hand, the number of adults who struggle with acne may surprise you. While teenagers do make up the highest number of the acne suffering public, it is surprisingly more common in adults than you might think.

It is also becoming increasingly clear that the psychological, social and physical effects of this condition are common occurrences in adults and can and do cause many problems. The reasons are not yet clear but according to recent studies, acne is becoming an increasing problem among adults.

Many dermatologists have indicated that adult acne is more likely to leave permanent scars because as the skin ages it loses collagen. As a result, it’s less likely to bounce back and thus, the scars don’t heal as well as they do with younger skin.

Unfortunately, the physical scars left by adult acne don’t paint the whole picture. The psychological effects are harder to trace and at times, more difficult to deal with because of the many misconceptions they carry with them.

Because acne has always been seen as a condition of our teenage years, many adults who are suffering from acne are hesitant to admit they have adult acne and seek proper treatment.

However, perceptions are shifting as more people recognize adult acne as a problem and that acne is not only an issue among teens, more adults are seeking proper treatment by going to see a dermatologist.

As awareness of adult acne has increased sales of prescription as well as over-the-counter products to treat the condition have also increased.

More and more doctors are now considering the unique cause and effects of this condition among their older patients, with more attention being given to the psychological effects of adult acne.

Because both adult and teens are affected by how others perceive them, adults suffering from acne tend to avoid social events whenever possible – just like teens. However, as the storehouse of information grows more adults will be armed with the information they need to win the battle over adult acne.

Whenever we think about acne, an image of a teenager with a face full of pimples comes to our mind. The reason behind this image is that acne is most common among the teenagers. Acne is considered as the first step of adolescence. But sometimes adults are also the victims of acne. This is termed as Adult Acne. It is a fact that acne can occur at any age so there is no need to worry as acne is controllable and curable at any stage.

Adult acne can usually appear in the late twenties. Adult acne normally appears on the face but in some cases it can appear on legs, arms or back. Adult acne can be frustrating and depressing for the individuals who are very touchy about their physical appearance. There are several reasons for adult acne like:

• Increased stress level. Stress is not the direct reason for an acne outbreak. Acne is caused as a side effect of anti-stress medicines. Doctors are still not clear about the fact that how anti-stress medicine causes acne.

• Sometimes over processed food can cause acne in adults.

• Adult acne is also caused by hormonal imbalances due to pregnancy or menopause.

• Some people working with masks often develop acne.

• Cosmetics can sometimes trigger acne in adult women.

• Excessive sweating can sometimes be the cause of acne.

Hormones and skin condition is interlinked. Whenever there is a hormonal imbalance in the human body effects will be reflected immediately on the skin. Under normal condition in women the ovaries produce estrogen as well as testosterone. In a female the concentration of estrogen should be greater than the testosterone. When the concentration of these hormones changes in the body, there arises the real problem.

Hormonal imbalance is reflected on the skin in shape of pimples, whiteheads or blemishes. Hormone therapy is a solution for hormone induced acne. The main purpose of this therapy is to create a balance between the two hormones. This therapy works to reduce androgens in order to stop them from stimulating the sebaceous glands which produces excessive oil ultimately resulting in acne.

There are numerous adult acne treatments available which can be very effective. As proved from research that acne is not caused by poor hygiene or diet but instead this is caused by the hormonal imbalance in the human body. This should be treated by a professional dermatologist. It is advisable not to experiment with your skin. If you want to use some new product or treatment, you should first check to see that the product is without side-effects or harmful chemicals by asking a friend who has used the same thing or reading acne treatment reviews.

It is recommended that you get as much information about a product before buying it. So if your planning on buying an acne treatment make sure you read an acne review site such as www.acnetreatmentfullreview.com.
