I’m 29 years old and breaking out on my face (sides of face, forehead and under the chin especially) which I’m assuming is adult acne. I’m using Proactive but it seems to be making it worse. Anyone have personal experience? Recommend products?

Having acne can be a disheartening experience to have to tolerate. It can be both bodily and psychologically painful not to mention undeserved distress. It can cause mind-set of seclusion, low-self regard, and yet hopelessness. Acne have an effect on virtually everyone at some point in his or her life, whether it’s during teenage years, pregnancy, menopause during which the hormonal balance in that aging woman might be disturbed from normal functioning or just during any moment in time of maturity.

What a strange name for this lesion– Comedo. It comes and does its job! You do not know when it comes, because it is invisible to the naked eye. It quietly lies below the skin, incognito, and waits for the right conditions to form, for the eventual attack. It is a hair follicle, enlarged and plugged with fellow travelers dead skin cells, oil and bacteria! When it becomes the inflamed lesion, it is ACNE!
Is there a cure for the acne? If you are willing to accept the straight answer, there is no clear cut remedy for acne. “Prevention is better than cure,” The rule applies very well to acne. But acne can be treated, if not cured altogether. That is not to say that the acne conditions will remain for ever. I only say that acne can not be thrown out. It will go when it has to go. On many occasions of its own volition!

Acne is not just a problem for teens but it can also affect many adults as well. It is very ornery to know which acne product to choose. Acne occurs when secretions put out by the sebaceous glands become clogged. These glands are situated in hair follicles of the skin. They generally serve to lubricate the skin, but when these openings are choked pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, or cysts develop.

Since going off my birth control to try to conceive, my acne has flared big time. My dermatologist does not recomend using over the counter acne medicine such as Persa-Gel which contains benzoyle peroxide becuase it is unknown if it is safe for pregnant women or women who are trying to conceive. I have used Proactive in the past and it has worked really well for me. I am not pregnant but am trying to conceive. Ultimately I plan to consult my OBGYN on this but I’m curious to find out what information others have.
