Article by Susan Clearington

Peeling has been one of the most essential parts of skin care process. How ironic it is though to know that it is the most neglected one. Too many people fear that peeling, or removing the top layer of skin that contains dead skin cells will damage the skin and may cause serious permanent problem. But hell no. you need to peel to bring out the new, healthy skin. One of the most commonly used nowadays is the ever-controversial glycolic acid acne products. What do you actually know about these products? Here are some things to think about and may be useful in your everyday skin care regimen.

Glycolic acid is one of the most popular components of exfoliants. It is perhaps the best-known of a group of chemicals called fruit acids or alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA), so a natural product. Citric acid from oranges and other citrus fruits also fall under the same classification as glycolic acid. The acids extracted from these natural sources are then transformed into popular creams, lotions and cleansers.

Glycolic acid or AHA works as an exfoliating agent because of its high acidity but easy solubility. It damages the top layers of skin and destroys what holds dead skin cells. It removes and brushes off the dead skin cells and it will come along with washing with a mild cleanser, and never soap. The remaining acid is then eliminated by the skin. Because if not, they will stay they until they become irritants that will worsen things up. The result will be a much fairer, clear complexion. Another is that glycolic acid draws moisturizers into the newly-exfoliated skin surface, locks them in and obtain a healthier, more nourished skin.

Since you know that peeling causes dryness and flaking, be it known to you that one must be diligent in doing skin care. Know that there is no such thing as a single step to a healthier, beautiful skin. Start by cleansing with a good amount of meticulous clearing and clearing with antibacterial, creamy, cold creams. Then exfoliate with glycolic acid in moderation. Next, have a good habit of using enough moisturizers and do sun protection.

Don’t settle for just clean skin. Get rid of what causes your skin troubles. Dead, dry skin cells make your skin dull and lifeless. By removing those with the glycolic acid acne products your skin’s overall appearance will be perfectly matched with your nice body, and greatly enhanced. You may not see the difference in a few days but your skin will have a healthier, more nourished, radiant glow and acne marks and scars will just be parts of your outgrown, living nightmare. You will have a softer, smoother and younger looking, and feeling skin. Your skin will look the best it has in years!

Acne Glycolic acid is a popular product because it can penetrate the skin. In doing so, it helps to keep the hair and skin follicles clear of built up dead skin. This reduces pore blockage which traps sebum in the pore, which eventually turns into a pimple. This acid also triggers the formation of new elastin cells and collagen. Using specific nutrients and vitamins help the new cells to grow faster.

Acne glycolic acid, known as a fruit acid, is an alpha hydroxyl acid that is used for treating skin conditions. It comes from sugar cane and is considered a natural product. Citric acid is also another form of glycolic acid and is found in lemons, oranges, lime, and grapefruits.

It is derived from sugar cane, so it can be considered a natural product. Citric acid falls under the same classification as glycolic acid. In high concentration, 70% or more, it is extremely dangerous for the skin. The government considers any product with 10 % or more of glycolic to be hazardous.

When starting out to use glycolic acid, it is best to start with 2.5 % or 5 % to see how you skin will react. Then you can increase the concentration to 10%. Most cosmetic products have 10 % or less of glycolic. The concentrations used by trained cosmetologists are between 20 and 30 % and those used by doctors can range from 50 to 70 percent.

The benefits of using glycolic acid are improved skin quality and reduced skin aging. It give the skin increased moisture through exfoliation. It makes the skin denser, improves the quality of elastic fibers, and promotes increased collagen density. This acid helps to reduce skin blemishes and imperfections.

Despite the controversy, the use of acne glycolic acid has been found to be effective in cleaning dead skin cells from the skin’s surface, provided it used correctly. It must be used in the proper concentration, 10% or less, in products for exfoliation and moisturizing.

Using acne glycolic acid for acne will clean and cleanse your facial pores. In removing dead skin from the pores and unplugging them, natural accumulating sebum can be released normally from the pores onto the skin. As pores are cleansed, you may see more acne forming, but this should stop within a few weeks.

Using glycolic acid may leave the skin sensitive to the sun. It is recommended that sun screen be used after treating your skin with glycolic. When using glycolic acid with other creams, it many not be necessary to use sun screen, except during hot summer weather.

If you stop using glycolic acid to clear or to prevent acne, the dead cells, skin derby and dirt will build up and your pores will become clogged again. The result is you will again have acne or pimples. Learning to keep your face clean and how to prevent your body from creating excess sebum can be a solution to your acne.

This acid can help to get rid of acne and other skin problems since it is capable of penetrating the skin. Other products cannot penetrate your skin. Your skin is made up of three layers, the epidermis, the dermis and the subcutaneous tissue. The epidermis is the outer skin made up of layers of individual dead cells. Over time, these dead cells shed. Acne glycolic acid helps shed these dead cells quicker.

The benefits of using glycolic acid are improved skin quality and reduced skin aging. It give the skin increased moisture through exfoliation. It makes the skin denser, improves the quality of elastic fibers, and promotes increased collagen density. This acid helps to reduce skin blemishes and imperfections.

After using glycolic acid products you should use sunburn products of at least 15 SPF. Do this to prevent photo damage to your skin. Glycolic acid exposes new skin and can be sensitive to the sun. As you remove dead skin, you skin may drier then normal but after a few days your skin will recover and appear normal.

There are many people that are using higher concentrations of glycolic acid as a chemical peel. A chemical peel is where a complete exfoliation of the skin occurs. In this case, up to 50 % acid concentrations are used. Using these concentrations leaves the skin extremely sunburned. The skin looks damaged and unsightly, but after a few days the skin repairs and looks smooth. Use acne glycolic acid for an effective acne treatment. Concentrations of 10 % or less are what you should use for home treatment.
