At this day and age, technology has enabled manufacturers of acne solutions to come up with more effective products than those that were available a decade ago. However, you might still encounter products that do not seem to work on your particular condition. Is that because those products aren’t that effective enough? It may be possible. But you may not have been able to maximize the product’s effectiveness just yet.

Why is it so important to figure out the effectiveness of your anti-acne product? There are several benefits to this. First, you can keep the product that you’re using now. You don’t have to throw it away and search for another anti-acne product which will cost you good money once again. Another thing is that you don’t waste any more of your time looking for other effective acne solutions when you already have one in your cabinet.

So, how do you make your anti-acne product work better? Below are some tips that we’d like to share with you.

Tip 1: Help Your Anti-Acne Product Help You

Some anti-acne products only work as advertised when you use it regularly. That said, you should always check out the directions for use literature that comes with the anti-acne product that you’re getting. There will certainly be directions on how often you should use it. Follow those directions and you’ll likely see an improvement in the effectiveness of the product you bought.

Tip 2: Wash and Dry Your Face Thoroughly Before Applying the Solution

Anti-acne products work best when they come in direct contact with your skin. That said, you should make sure that you have washed and dried your face thoroughly before you apply the anti-acne solution. That would ensure that the solution will stick directly on your skin and, therefore, provide you with the full benefits that you expect from it.

Tip 3: Take Care of Your Skin

Some people buy anti-acne products thinking that the product will solve all of their acne-related problems. Unfortunately, it’s not as simple as it seems. The product that you’re using now can only be really effective if you also take measures in taking good care of your skin. That includes washing your face regularly, using makeup that doesn’t cause acne, as well as having a healthy diet. So, don’t wait for a miracle to happen. Do your part too in ensuring that you have an acne-free skin.

There you have it, all the things you need to know about making your acne solutions work better. Keep in mind that you don’t always have to shop around acne products that are available in the market today. Many of these solutions are quite effective enough against common types of acne.

However, if you continue using over- the- counter anti acne products but don’t see results, it’s always best to consult with your dermatologist. He can, then, prescribe more effective solutions to your acne problem. But before you do that, make sure you have tested the product you have thoroughly first, as it can provide you with long- terms savings when you do.

I have what to some is considered adult acne. I had absolutely clear skin until I got pregnant and had my daughter, and ever since then I have had an “hormonal imbalance” as they call it. I have tried everything! Proactive, dermotologists and their many solutions – I have almost done it all. I now use Neutrogena make up, which doesn’t get rid of it, but does seem to help. I have recently heard that Physicians Formula is even better, does anyone know if this is true?? I will one day get the lazer that supposedly takes it all away, but for now I need the best in make up for acne thats noncomedogenic. Do you know how Neutrogena and Physicians Formula compare? Is it worth changing over? If you use or have used either or both of these please let me know your opinion. Thank you.

The first and the foremost point to be remembered in the treatment of acne is not to panic. Whiteheads or blackheads will have to be treated with a cool head! No doubt, acne on the face is bound to cause a confusing contour in the curtain of your mind, but desperate remedies are not the solutions for desperate situations.

A basic understanding of the acne situation in each individual case requires a thorough study. Fortunately or unfortunately, the literature and expertise regarding the treatment options available are likely to be confounded! A mountain of literature about the molehill that is acne!

Let it be perfectly understood that total cure of acne is an impossibility. If someone, some product or some company- national or multinational promises it, take it as a business advertisement! They dwell upon it, because they have to sell. And all the selling is done at somebody’s cost!

If the golden rule, an ounce of prevention is better than a cure, is to be applied anywhere, apply it here; and apply it with profit. What is your basic formula for skin care? If it is no new spots, improved skin condition and making efforts to deny future scarring, you are on the right track! You have understood your acne! Personal treatment for a universal disease!

Human skin needs a certain amount of oil to maintain its natural condition. And when it comes to acne skin, skin care becomes even more important. Keep the spot-prone areas clean. Wash the affected area twice a day with a perfume free cleanser. Note that aggressive washing and strong soaps are big enemies of your acne skin.

Plus, hundreds of over-the-counter remedies are available with your chemist. The anti-bacterial agents in them, like benzoyl peroxide will help you a great deal to defeat acne. The skin areas where you feel that the spot is likely to emerge, must be kept clean. In effect, these agents dry out the skin and encourage it to shed the surface layer of dead skin. These effects make it harder for pores to become blocked and infection does not spread. When the antibacterial effects dry out the skin, the surface layer of the skin begins to fall. The pores are not blocked and infection is checked.

No treatment will tender on the spot results. Significant effects, if they materialize hopefully, will take their own time. If results are not forthcoming, say within a period of two months, then it the time to switch over the treatment after consulting a dermatologist. At this stage, he has many options depending upon your case-history and his understanding of the problem, after certain investigations, if necessary. He has an armory of treatment options- both for external application and internal consumption.

And finally, do not fail to consult your Grandma! That walking ‘encyclopedia’ may have unfailing solutions!

Let’s take a look at how to combat your acne.

The main strategy to use is prevention where possible and better
skin care. Here are several top issues of focus for each:

exercise,
cosmetics,
diet,
hormones,
hygiene,
medications,
shaving,
stress.

Exercise – Keeping in shape can help fight acne by fighting off
negative stress levels that can come from negative self-esteem
and depression. However, some safeguards need to be in place to
ward off acne that can result from your workout routines. First
watch which products you use on your body because you’ll most
likely be sweating. With any sunscreen’s for outdoor workout
activities and any make-up or other cosmetics, check for
“noncomedogenic” and “oil-free” on the labels to help prevent
pore clogging. And when your workout is finished, wash the
products off as soon as possible, especially if you’ll be going
into a steam room or sauna where your pores will be opening up
more. You don’t want these lotions and other cosmetics getting
into your pores and clogging them up, resulting in blemishes.

Watch what you put on your body with regards to clothing, sports
gear and equipment. For example, tight lycra and nylon exercise
outfits might look great in the movies and magazine models, but
if you are susceptible to acne problems, avoid these synthetic
fabrics that tend to trap in body moisture and heat resulting in
a bacteria frenzy. Instead, choose loose clothing made of cotton
or natural blends to allow more air to get to your skin. And when
you’re finished with your workout, get out of clothing wet from
perspiration or water sports. Shower and change into dry, clean
clothing. And keep your sports gear and equipment clean, too.
Dirty headgear, for instance, can irritate forehead areas prone
to acne problems. So toss headbands into the washing machine
after workout sessions.

Tip: when cleaning your body after a workout, no need to scrub
with force and irritate skin. If possible, wash with medicated
soap (check for “exfoliant” on the label) or medicated wipes from
your athletic bag where showers aren’t available.

Tip: When drying with a towel, even if it’s during your workout
to erase sweat, always blot instead of rub. That way you avoid
grinding excess dead skin, dirt, sweat and other chemicals into
your pores and risking pore-clogging and skin irritation.

Cosmetics – To avoid pore-clogging and skin irritations similar
to acne and can contribute to acne, use products labeled
“noncomedogenic” or “oil-free.” Shimmering facial colors can
contain a flaky mineral called mica that can cause skin
irritations and clog pores. Other additives in coloring that can
cause similar reactions are coal tar derivatives, carmine and
heavy cream in blushes. More preventative measures include using
a lip gloss promoting a matte finish instead of a high gloss for
less pore-clogging; note the more the shine, the more then
comedogenic content and the more the pores can clog.

Beware eye creams can contain heavier concentrations of
moisturizers than regular creams and lotions, meaning they have
greater potential to clog pores in the surrounding facial areas.
Additionally use caution with hair styling products that contain
oils, alcohol and adhesives that should be kept away from skin
and from seeping into pores along with perspiration during
workouts; especially watch hair gels and mousses so they don’t
cause clogging around your hairline. Use care when choosing
fragrance and scented cosmetics, and opt for hypo-allergenic or
“fragrance-free” versions where possible to avoid allergic
reactions and skin irritations (a sampling 3-day test behind an
ear is recommended).

Tip: Thoroughly clean your face and any other areas where
cosmetics are applied daily, especially if used when combined
with exercising or other activities that promote sweating, where
there is the opportunity for the chemicals to be absorbed or
soaked up into your pores.

Shaving – Shaving for both genders is an excellent way of
exfoliating or removing dead skin to help with the prevention and
spreading of acne instead of leaving the remains to clog pores.
And for some light acne cases already in process, shaving can
help rid whiteheads and blackheads from the face. A word of
caution: for areas with infection or high inflammatory activity
(redness, sensitive, open acne, sores, etc.), do not shave. Or at
the very least, use a shaving cream for sensitive skin. For best
results with regular shaving, follow these procedures:

Steer away from shaving creams that are oily and choose one for
sensitive skin if available. Then moisten facial or other hair
with warm water, apply the shaving cream and lather well. Shave
with a sharp (not dull) blade. Note when shaving, use gentle
swipes instead of heavy pressure ones that can irritate
acne-prone areas. And go with the flow or “grain;” in other
words, adapt to downward, lateral, angular or upward swipes, for
a smoother shave with less nicks and irritating backward motions.
Experiment with different razors, both electric and disposable,
with single- double- or triple-edged (mach III) heads to see
which works best for you. And try shaving in a warm shower for
better results.

For after shaving applications, try toning to stop bacteria dead
in its tracks before it gets into your open follicles. Try
antibiotic gel or lotion, witch hazel, Dalacin T, a mild
alcohol-free toner, Benzoyl Peroxide in gel form and Salicylic
Acid in a gel.

Shaving Tip: Electric razors may not shave as close to the skin;
however, they help with the prevention of acne and other skin
breakout’s and flare-ups better.

Shaving Tip: If a non-electric razor is your choice, a
single-edged blade is actually better. Why? Because double- and
triple-edged blades grab hair follicles and pull them out from
below the epidermis. And in the process, your skin “heals itself”
by closing over these holes, making it difficult for future hair
follicles to grow outward – creating inflammation in the tight
areas.

Diet – Studies show diet does not play a role in either the cause
or the treatment of acne. However, what is recommended for acne
preventative care is what is best for your body and best for your
skin, especially since your skin is the largest organ of your
body. So here are healthy vitamins, minerals and other
supplements known and recommended to prevent and help conquer
acne breakout’s:

Hormones – Hormones or lack of, during later years and especially
for women, can play a role in acne flare-ups and prevention. One
recent study showed about 50 percent of women have acne, referred
to as hormonal acne, problems during the week before their
menstruation. Treatment options can include topical retinoids,
oral antibiotics and Benzoyl Peroxide for teen years. On into
adult years, some acne aids include oral contraceptives or
hormonal birth control pills and hormonal replacement therapy
(HRT) for women, combined with systemic or topical treatments,
prescription or over-the-counter products and medications, and
antibiotics for both sexes.

Hygiene – A healthy skin regimen should include no harsh
scrubbing or over-washing, because this can cause possible skin
irritation or possible over production of oil to replace what’s
washed off, clogging pores in the process. Products with gentle
exfoliation ingredients are OK to use; i.e. not scratchy nut or
fruit shell pieces that can tear skin. And skip alcohol products
when possible; these can take off the top layer of your skin and
cause your glands to product more oil, clogging pores in the
process.

If you do spot acne-troubled areas, do NOT mess with them.
Remember these are already weeks in the making, and squeezing or
picking blemishes can force the infected area to regress back
inside, further troubling the region and possibly leave a scar.
If necessary, seek help from a dermatologist for alternative
treatments.

Acne solutions come in different forms; they can be topical ointments, laser therapies, oral medications and even personally-mixed solutions. Some people though, are just not keen on using anything on their face that has any chemical in it. Instead, they prefer to use natural solutions mixed from herbs and other plants.

Although most acne solutions that are available right now are generally effective, using natural products is still the favored solution of some individuals who suffer from pimples. For some, anything that has been artificially or technologically manufactured is just not for them. To let you in on what herbs or plants are commonly used by such individuals, here is a partial list.

1. Aloe vera. The most popular natural skin-care plant is this one. Not only has it been touted as good for the skin, it has also been used to cure dandruff and to maintain healthy, glowing hair. When it comes to the skin, Aloe vera is one of the most popular options for herbal cure lovers. The sap of this plant is applied to the pimple and is said to be effective in reducing inflammation.

2. Nettle tea. Allegedly one of the best promoters of healthy skin. Drinking three cups of nettle tea each day is said to be effective in keeping the skin clear and smooth and free of pimples. Some tea-drinking enthusiasts even asserted that the reason Chinese women have beautiful skin is because they drink a lot of tea. Although this claim about Chinese skin is not scientifically proven, the health benefits of tea are still numerous and it is definitely a better option than coffee if you’re looking for a relaxing drink.

3. Cucumber. This is another plant commonly associated with healthy skin. This might be due to the rich vitamin A it contains and the soothing effect it has on the skin. Aside from being touted as an acne cure, cucumber is also used to reduce the dark rings under the eyes caused by lack of sleep. The juice or the liquid content of cucumber is said to be good at reducing inflammation and is reportedly effective in soothing and softening the skin.

4. Garlic. A lot of people have vouched for its effectiveness when it comes to curing pimples. Garlic’s popularity as an acne cure might be due to the compounds it contains that inhibit the enzymes that cause inflammation. Garlic is also known as an anti-viral and an anti-bacterial solution. Applying garlic on your zits is said to be an effective overnight pimple cure.

5. Papaya. The fruit is a favorite among acne sufferers not only because of its effectiveness, but also because it is one of the natural solutions that has a pleasant smell. The fruit can be applied directly to the pimples or can be used as a facial mask. Whichever way one prefers to use it, papaya is believed to be effective not only in battling pimples, but also in making skin soft and supple.

Acne solutions based on herbs, fruits and other plants are said to be the safest way to cure pimples. According to proponents of natural cures, the fact that they have no artificial ingredients and that most of them are used as food can only mean that they can do more good than harm. Whether you prefer to address your acne problem using natural cures or not, a visit to the dermatologist is still the best way to determine the best option for your condition.

Acne is a common problem to people especially to youngsters and is true as well for adults. Numerous treatment options for acute cases are recommended but it is better to see a dermatologist in your area before conducting any treatment possible.

Generally, acne starts at the age of puberty and can even last longer in years. In some cases it even reaches the age of adulthood. Initially, it is important to try everyday skin care hygiene to stop the development of acne. It is necessary to now have a talk to a dermatologist before the problem gets worse. Its far better to consult a doctor if you already notice even a little problem arising, otherwise scarring takes place. Prevention from scarring is better even if there are treatment options available.

Prior to choosing an acne treatment option, essential considerations should be followed such as the quantity of acne present, how acute is the acne, what is the cause of your acne, prevention of acne formation, scarring prevention, acne during pregnancy and breastfeeding stage. These stated cases may precisely affect your acne treatment selection.

Acne treatment is categorized into three methods: over-the-counter drugs or creams, oral drugs, and hormone therapy.

We can purchase over-the-counter drugs in most drugstores and groceries even without prescriptions. A few of the over-the-counter medications are facial cleansers. The salicylic acid content of these cleansers helps to slough skin cells off and unclog the pores.

People are of different sizes and of different skin types. Most of the time however, individuals having sensitive skin are much prone to acne. This is the reason why special daily caring and cleansing is very essential. Thus, have a skin care regimen with a total understanding of the contents and functions so as not to further irritate your acne.

Choosing beauty products that are specifically for acne is better since some of these products have dye contents and perfumes that could seriously aggravate blemishes. Minerals such as zinc and vitamins A, C, and E help in the improvement of the condition and over-all skin health. And so, eat foods that are rich with these vitamins and minerals to grow your skin well and promote a good health.

Sulfur rich foodstuffs like garlic and onions are known to help diminish acne blemishes. On the other hand, fried foods, sugar and those that contain high fat should be eaten with moderation. Yet total avoidance intake of sweet carbonated beverages can decrease acne blemishes.

Moreover, people who suffer from acne should pay careful attention on skin care and total skin cleaning to avoid perfumed derma products. The following are a few tips on the things you should and should not do:

1.Clean your skin carefully with warm water along with a natural mild facial cleanser. Do the cleansing twice or thrice a day since skin oils, contaminants, and dirt easily clog the pores.

2.Choosing cosmetics that are oil-free is necessary. Ordinary beauty products have large quantity of fatty acids which blocks the skin pores as well.

3.Remember to not over wash your skin which means no to excessive scrubbing since it won’t eliminate your acne.

4.It is recommended to use skin toners for extra cleaning but don’t overuse them.

One must consider the foods they eat especially for acne patients. Careful beauty product choices must be taken into consideration as well. These precautions are not just for acne but for any skin or health condition, knowledge plays on a significant improvement role and that an ounce of prevention is absolutely far better than a pound of treatment.

Acne is supposed to be one of the most awful sights during adolescence. Every teenage prays to God to spare him/her of these ugly looking red lesions. These inflammatory spots can appear on the face, chest, back, shoulders and neck. It is however more common in the people with oily skin but during puberty almost 85% teenagers fall prey to them, irrespective of their skin type. Pimples are not an indication of a teen’s unhealthy diet or dirty face, Acne is caused due to the over activity of oil glands. These oil or sebaceous glands are present at the bottom of the hair follicles, causing hormonal changes that occur during puberty.

Pimples are caused by multiple factors and fortunately we have multiple solutions and acne prevention tips to stay away from them. These tips are simple to follow, but these may not have an instant effect.

Wash but not over-wash: Dirt, grime and pollutants may be the reason behind acne for some people, not all. So if you think that washing your face repeatedly will help you stay off from them, then you are mistaken. You should only wash your face twice a day else excessive cleansing will cause scrubbing of healthy skin, leaving it dry. Also avoiding the use of scrubs with apricots and almonds will help prevent skin tearing. Stay away from alcohol: if you use astringents and toners, then try to restrict yourself from using beauty products with high concentrations of alcohol. Alcohol dries the skin and strips the upper layer of the skin, thus making the skin produce more oil and aggravating the problem. Don’t touch or squeeze: Some people develop a habit of touching and squeezing the problem area again and again. This can cause an inflammation on the affected area and damage the surrounding skin. Never prick your blemish with a pin or fingernail as bacteria may penetrate deeper into the skin. This precaution will help you reduce acne. Take shower after work-out: Exercising is undoubtedly the best way to rejuvenate, but remember to shower once you are through with your work-out schedule. Sweating traps the moisture and heat in your skin, which act as a breeding ground for acnes. So you must freshen up instantly after training. Find an over-the-counter regimen: Incase of mild blemishes, one can use the medications available at a medical store. These contain benzoyl peroxide, which prevent pimples and kill the bacteria. Antibiotic prescription by a physician also helps to curb the problem. Treatments like that of retinoic acid and antibiotic pills, sensitize skin to the sun, hence it is advisable to wear a sunscreen. Be happy: Tension creates an unnecessary burden on mind and body, leading to an over activity of hormones and causing pimples. Hence, try to stay calm and happy throughout as it will not only regulate the balance of the body but also help remove the toxins from the body.
