Oh, and my baby is a month-and-a-half old, and his billy cord has already healed and has fallen off. A nightly bath has been helping him sleep 3 hours straight at night, and so I’m not too worried about his skin drying out. It’s very supple; I just had question about the acne! Thanks a ton for all the answers! It’s nice to know that it is just hormones and nothing to worry about much.

If you think that acne is a problem only teenagers and adults face, think again. Infants can also have signs of acne. They could have breakouts as early as 2-3 weeks after birth. Baby acne is more common in the in the facial area (cheeks, chin and forehead) and they can even have back acne in this early stage of life.

Baby acne should not be mistaken with milia or eczema. Milia are also known as milk spots. These are small, hard and white-colored spots that usually disappear in about two weeks. Eczema, on the other hand, is a type of skin inflammation and is more serious than acne. Symptoms of eczema include scaling and blisters. Whiteheads are also an issue and these are small bumps, either white or flesh-colored, that are caused by blocked pores. You would know that your child has acne if pimples start to appear within their first month.

Some medical studies show that baby acne could start forming while babies are still in their mother’s womb. In the latter stage of pregnancy, a mother’s hormones are passed through the placenta and are received by the fetus. This can actually stimulate your baby’s oil glands and with the presence of oil, acne can easily appear. This is why some babies would appear to have red pimples even right after birth.

To prevent acne, be sure that you are not using strong detergents in washing your baby’s clothes. Some detergents may contain harsh chemicals that can aggravate the skin. Immediately wipe any food, drinks, or saliva that may drip off from your baby’s mouth as this may worsen baby acne.

Always see to it that your baby’s face is cleaned with water and a mild soap every day. Do not try to scrub their face because baby’s skin is so sensitive and scrubbing would cause reddening. Do not use any oils and lotions that are not recommended by your doctor. These may irritate your baby’s skin easily. You should be alarmed if your baby’s acne problem lasts for more than six months. It is important to get your doctor’s advice if baby acne gets worse.

It is quite common for newborn babies to have acne. It can be present at birth or usually it appears after a couple of weeks, predominantly on the cheeks and sometimes on the forehead, chin or back in the form of whiteheads, blackheads and pustules.

The causes of baby acne as with adolescent one are not clear. It can occur as the result of hormonal changes, when babies receive hormones from their mother at the end of pregnancy or just through mother’s milk. These hormones are naturally passed through the placenta and are responsible for aiding the survival of a newborn once they have left the womb. The hormones help stimulate lung maturation, but they also result in increased oil gland activity. So, it is this increased gland production that may lead to baby acne. However, there are other factors, viewed as possible acne causes. For example, taking certain medications while nursing or pregnancy can provoke skin disorder as well.

Baby acne is mild and in most cases clears up within a couple of weeks on its own. Therefore, very often doctors don not suggest any medical treatment, because it can only worsen the situation. Actually, baby acne doesn’t result from dirt, that’s why it is not necessary to wash the skin of the baby too much. Applying baby acne products such as gels and lotions might simply irritate the skin. Instead, you may wash your baby’s face with mild baby soap and water once a day and pat it dry gently.

It is also recommended to avoid creams or oils, because these can make the acne worse. Over-the-counter acne medicines and scrub should be excluded from the daily baby skin care as well. Small whiteheads, surrounded by reddish skin, can be developed when your baby sweats or if his skin is irritated by saliva or rough fabric.

In general, as it was said, baby acne will go away naturally once the baby reaches the age of three to four months, but if taken measured don’t help to improve the condition, you can take the help of medications to treat severe form of baby acne. However, it can be done only if your paediatrics advises you for that.

Baby acne is a very common condition among newborn babies. Baby acne can be present at the time of birth or may usually develop within 2 to 4 weeks after birth. Baby acne is a result of the hormonal changes in the body as these changes stimulate the oil glands in the babyâ??s skin.

Baby acne, as with all medical conditions, has some common symptoms. Usually the acne first appears to be a rash with small pimples that are red in appearance. Sometimes, whiteheads can actually be seen. The pimples will tend to show up more when the baby is upset or overheated and at times they may even seem as though they are not there at all. Baby cane will clear up with time and are not something that young mothers should be overly concerned about.

Baby acne is primarily caused by fetal hormones, such as adrenal androgens, that are passed through the placenta prior to birth. Drugs, taken by the nursing mum or by the baby, can also trigger baby acne. The most common ones include: Steroids (oral or topical), anti-depressant medicines and occasionally oral contraceptives.

What causes baby acne?

There are several factors that can cause acne on the skin of the baby.

* As with adolescent acne, the condition can be caused by a skin irritation

* Medicines can causes baby acne as well

* Itâ??s possible that mineral oil or petroleum can cause baby acne.

Bad Nutrition

Since your baby cannot pick up bad eating habits at this early age, infantile acne due to bad nutrition is very rare. Bad nutrition can be the cause of infantile acne if parents are not attentive toward their babiesâ?? diet.

Does Baby Acne Hurt? More often than not, you will be more affected by your baby’s acne than she is. Baby acne does not itch, sting, or hurt in any way. And she is too young to notice her unsightly appearance. So it is more likely that baby acne will bother you, than your baby. However, with severe cases of baby acne, the blemishes may become so swollen and inflamed that they cause or add to your baby’s fussiness. See your health care provider if you think your baby’s acne is causing her aggravation.

Treatment:

Baby acne usually goes away by itself. It is sufficient in most cases to do some gentle facial cleansing once or at most twice a day using a mild baby cleanser and clean water. Do not scrub babyâ??s face, this will not help and may be counterproductive. Donâ??t apply lotions or potions or oils. Donâ??t look for fancy baby acne remedies, donâ??t try applying vinegar solution for baby acne as some do Unless baby’s acne is being caused by an underlying condition, there is really no need to treat it. It doesn’t harm your baby and is purely a cosmetic issue. Gently wash your baby’s face with plain water once or twice per day, and don’t scrub. Cleansing that is too frequent or too vigorous will irritate your baby’s skin.

Prevention

·	Child should not sleep on dirty pillows.

·	Drink fresh fruits juices and large amount of water.

·	Do not squeeze, dig, touch or pick the acne.

·	Use paper towels to pat the affected area dry and throw it away.

This skin disorder can also be found in your new born baby.

If you see acne or even red spots on the baby’s skin he or she might suffer from acne, however acne on those early ages are also very common so you don’t have to be worry.
Researches found out the baby acne occurs when the baby is few month years old and it usually ends when he or she is six month years old.

Babies get acne from several reasons: From the mother’s placenta which contains the hormones, and from laundry detergents that exists in the clothing and beddings. To protect the baby you should also avoid dust, dirty places and direct sun light. When the baby is crying, the blood rushes to the acne skin and can make it even worse. Cystic acne in babies looks very similar to kids’ acne, they appear mainly on the face but it can develop to other areas. Therefore it is very important to keep the skin clean and dry and avoid oily creams.

In most cystic acne cases there is no need to take further action in order to get rid of acne; general clean regime will be enough. However if your baby still having acne six months after the birth, you should consult a doctor, which might give you medical prescription. As stated before baby acne is just temporary phase and usually don’t develop in to severe skin disorder. You don’t have to worry too much; it’s natural to have it those ages.
