I have been suffering with many symptoms for months now, and doctors keep dismissing it as anxiety…?
…however I am at my wits end because I know this isn’t the only problem. I have had anxiety and OCD for years and have been on Paxil since I was 17 (and am now 28). Several months back, I started having tingling and numbness, and my regular doctor figured it was the Paxil causing it, so she changed me to Lexapro. That didn’t work well and she switched me to Zoloft. Too much switching of meds caused some serious issues and I had to be hospitalized. I noticed at this point that I was having bouts of high blood pressure (it was 158/90 one time at the doctor’s office). I am healthy, young and very slender, so this was odd. I eventually was put back on Paxil and felt better, but a couple months ago the issues started again with numbness. I visited a neurologist who said nothing is wrong with me, however now the high bloog pressure is back. Other symptoms I have noticed are acne (I have NEVER had this), excess hair growth, irregular menses… Could this be interrelated somehow?

the last three symptoms (acne, excess hair, irregular periods) and high blood pressure are all typical symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome. i dont know if it has anything to do with the numbness. Most women with PCOS arent thin though. however, those last 3 symptoms sound hormonal, so i might see a gyno about that
Have you talked to your ob/gyn about this? Acne, excess hair growth, and irregular menses are all symptoms of a gynecological issue… I think they are very common with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)… maybe it could be causing your other symptoms, too…
Don’t give up, though. Find a primary care doctor who will support you in seeking a proper diagnosis, seek out specialists, and do internet searches for your symptoms and people with similar stories to get an idea where to start. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying you should self diagnose off the internet, but sometimes it can point you to where to go… a specialist, a different system that could be causing the symptoms, etc. I’ve got several different autoimmune diseases and have found diagnoses by talking to my doc about things that I found on the internet. My doc was open to this because she didn’t know what was wrong with me or where to look, but she knew something was wrong.
i hate to say that these symptoms would not be enough to make a diagnosis. It sounds like the numbness may be from your medication, but if it mentally calms you down, you and your doctor need to decide the degree of the numbness and mental illness and figure what’s most medically important to worry about. The hair growth, acne and menstrual problems could all be hormone related. Stress, birth control, or even out of or into a new relationship can definitely effect your hormones. As much as your doctor wants to dismiss your symptoms, she/he legally can’t ignore any of your worries. Keep bugging him! concentrate on the numbness for now-it sounds like the only symptom to be of true clinical importance right now.
