Does steaming your face help reduce the appearance of acne?
I want to start steaming my face but I’m not sure whether to wash my face first then steam or to steam then wash. I really want info on whether steaming is beneficial to acne prevention, preferably in the form of articles or personal experience. Lastly, can it help heal scars?

steaming your face only helps spread the bacteria around your face, causing MORE pimples
Steam helps loosen the dirt in your pores. It can potentially help heal acne just my making cleansing easier and more effective. If you steam first, and then use a gentle face wash, you won’t have to work as much at getting the oil and dirt out of your pores. Less scrubbing equals less irritation, and less chance for additional breakouts. It probably won’t help the scars though.
for pimples, I use a cotton ball soaked with rubbing alcohol (dripping wet) and then i soak the pimple with it for 5 minutes … this takes out the infection of the pimple and it makes it go away very quickly. if it is a big pimple, I will soak it several times at night … maybe even the next day if needed (really bad one)
this has always worked very well …
From what I understand about steaming is that the steam OPENS up the pores in order to clean them better. I think washing your face gently first to get rid of dirt, dead skin and oils will prevent them from getting in the way when you do steam. I have found that some pimples and blackheads are easier to extract once you have steamed. causing less trauma to the skin. shortly after the steam you should use ice water. once the pores are clean the ice water closes them back and makes them appear smaller.
