Im travelling to Kenya soon for aid work, and im currently on acne medication, i was told by somebody that doxycycline could be used as anti malarial medication as well as for acne prevention, is this true?

Best answer:

Answer by Infectious Diseases Today
The recommended prophylaxis for Kenya is Atovaquone/proguanil, doxycycline, or mefloquine. However, check with your doctor or travel medicine specialist concerning dosage, etc. The dosage for acne may be different.
Acne prevention is not as easy as it sounds, and can in fact be very challenging. There are many, many myths that surround breakouts and the cause of acne, making it hard to know what you can do to prevent acne and what is simply not true.

Once you know the myths and the truths of fighting acne, you will be better prepared to help your skin stay clear permanently.

Truth About Face Washing

One of the most common myths concerning acne prevention is that you can head off a breakout by washing your face more often. While it is important to keep your skin clean to prevent acne, washing your face too often will lead to dry, irritated skin that can cause your breakouts to be even more uncomfortable that what they normally are.

While clean skin is important, you need some of the natural oils that are produced by your skin to be healthy. These oils will help to keep your skin soft and supple, and may even help reduce the irritation that is common with severe breakouts.

Can Antibiotics Cause More Harm Than Good

Even though it is possible to get bacteria in acne that already exists, antibiotics or other antibacterial agents are not effective in preventing acne. The main reason that dermatologists and doctors prescribe antibiotics for acne is that, especially with severe acne, it is possible for the cysts to become infected from bacteria in the atmosphere, which you are exposed to each and every day.

The truth is that taking tons of antibiotics can cause problems later, when the antibiotics will no longer work to combat infections. Using antibiotics for acne prevention is not only ineffective; it can also have many harmful side effects. It is usually better to save antibiotic and other anti bacterial treatments for those times when you really need them, rather than trying to use them to cut off a breakout.

Is Diet and Acne Just A Fad?

While you may have heard conflicting advice about diet and acne, there is some connection to the foods that you eat to the health of your skin. As with all other types of acne prevention cures, using your diet to control acne may work for some people and not for others. The only way that you will know if your diet is causing your acne is to try a modified diet, and see if your breakouts clear up.

Luckily, using your diet to help in acne prevention is one of the only things that you can use that does not have any harmful side effects, and can even help you become healthier overall.

It is challenging to find a diet that you know will work, but there are several different programs available online that have been reviewed and proven to work for many different types of people, who each have different types of acne. Once you know more about the reasons behind your breakouts, changing your diet can have amazing effects, and can even clear up your acne permanently.

roughout your adolescence you probably suffered from acne. Most people would say that this is normal. Many people suffer from this condition. It is a fairly common skin disease that is shared by billions of people. If you are still experiencing acne or if you have a teenage son or daughter, you should seriously consider the various ways and means to prevent acne.

Acne Breakouts

Acne prevention is easy if you know how to. This is very important among young adults and teenagers since they are most likely to suffer from acne breakouts. Contrary to popular opinion, acne is not a condition that just afflicts teenagers. Even children may suffer from acne and there are people who continuously suffer from acne beyond adolescence. These people would probably suffer from acne for the rest of their lives if they do not find proper treatment for it. Fortunately, there are many things that you can do to.

In order to pinpoint the exact acne prevention plan, you should at least know what possibly causes your acne. It may be due to improper nutrition or cleansing habits. Hormones could also play a huge role on acne breakouts. Knowing the probable causes of your acne or your child?s acne will help you direct your attention to the different acne prevention techniques.

8 Tips on Preventing Acne Breakouts

1. Usually, a skin blemish like a pimple would usually start to form two or three weeks before it actually appears on the skin?s surface. Before it actually pops out, there are some things that you can do to ensure a blemish-free skin.

2. Wash your face or skin regularly. It can never be too much stressed that you need to keep your skin clean and oil free.

3. Wash with a mild cleanser daily to keep off dirt and impurities. This will also keep your pores from clogging. However, frequent and obsessive washing may aggravate the condition. So, look out for this.

4. Use a mild or gentle cleanser. The kind of products you use to wash your face matters. Prescription soaps are also great for acne prevention.

5. Do not use astringents. This is only advisable if you have a really oily skin and use these on areas that are very oily.

6. Wash your hair regularly and try to keep your hair off your face. The dust, grime and dirt from your hair may irritate your skin.

7. Regularly wash your bed linens, pillow cases and towels. This will keep you from using items that are full with germs and bacteria that can cause acne.

8. Exercise regularly and adopt a healthy diet. A healthy diet especially one rich in Vitamin A will ensure a glowing healthy skin. Exercise will help in your blood?s circulation which will ensure that every cell in your body is properly nourished.

Acne is embarrassing especially for teenagers or young adults. It is difficult to socialize if your face is full of pimples, blackheads and whiteheads. This can take a huge toll on your child?s psyche or even your own self-esteem. If you are prone to acne, therefore, you should know how to prevent the occurrence of breakouts.

Effective acne prevention requires using the right treatments, and adjusting product use and hygiene habits. If you want to know how to get rid of pimples, and deal with other skin problems like oiliness and blackheads, take a look at these great tips from the acne prevention experts at Nature’s Cure.Oily hair can aggravate acne, so stay away from oily products like pomades or hair spray, especially if you want to get rid of pimples on your forehead. If your hair is long, wear it pulled back or consider a shorter style that keeps it off your face, neck and shoulders if acne prevention is important in those areas. Be sure to pull your hair away from your skin when you sleep so those pimples don’t develop overnight.Use “noncomedogenic” (won’t clog pores or cause blackheads) or “nonacnegenic” (won’t cause pimples) cosmetics and suntan lotions.Avoid using moisturizers on acne-prone areas to get rid of pimples you have there or practice good acne prevention; if you do use a moisturizer, make sure it is not acnegenic.Use topical treatments, such as Nature’s Cure medicated spray, anywhere that you tend to get breakouts for acne prevention – don’t just spot-treat existing blackheads and pimples. The pore-clogging process happens two to three weeks before any blackheads or blemishes become visible on the skin. Since the salicylic acid acne medication in the body spray is an exfoliant, it helps to remove the dead skin that combines with oil and dirt to form those nasty blackheads and whiteheads that can get infected and become pimples.Wash the skin gently with a mild soap or cleanser and warm (not hot) water once or twice daily. Hot water and harsh cleansers can further irritate your skin and undermine your acne prevention efforts. It’s tempting to try to scrub away acne, but that’s not how to get rid of pimples. Scrubbing too hard or too frequently can actually make your acne worse and promote scarring by increasing inflammation or rupturing cysts under your skin, making bacteria spread.Don’t pick acne or blackheads on your face or body. It can permanently scar your skin. If you must pick, immediately apply a topical antibiotic to help stave off infection.Since stress can trigger acne, try to avoid stressful situations, resolve stresses by talking to friends/family or a professional, and be sure to eat right and get enough sleep. Sometimes the stress of having acne and trying to figure out how to get rid of pimples can make things worse. But if you take action toward acne prevention with these tips, you can diffuse some of that stress.Exercising regularly can also help reduce stress and it increases blood circulation and oxygen penetration to the skin, which may help with acne prevention.Drink at least 64 ounces of water a day to help “detoxify” the body from the inside out.Avoid hot, humid environments such as poorly ventilated kitchens, gyms, or tropical climates and stay away as much as possible from cooking grease or machine oil that can contribute to blackheads and clogged pores. If you work out, bring along pre-moistened alcohol towelettes to wipe sweat off your face, back and chest. Use towels to cover neck and chest areas to prevent coming in direct contact with the equipment. If you want to know how to get rid of pimples on your body, you need to realize that bumps on chest and back can be caused by tight fitting workout clothes that trap moisture and heat, so wear loose-fitting all-cotton clothing when you work out.Wear loose fitting clothing whenever possible and try to avoid friction against the skin caused by helmets, straps, backpacks or handbags.Sweat combines with skin oils to trap dirt and bacteria in your pores, causing blackheads and pimples, so it’s important to shower as soon as possible after you work out or sweat profusely.Clean cosmetic brushes regularly in soapy water and throw out old, contaminated makeup. Since bacteria is one of the key causes of acne, anything that keeps bacteria from touching your skin will help in acne prevention.

Article by Steve Taylor

I would love to tell you that there is a magical cure for acne but I would be lying. The intent of this article is not to mislead but to educate people both men and women on the “do’s” and “don’ts” of acne prevention. You see, the reality is that like many other diseases, there is no permanent cure for acne; acne comes and goes as it pleases. However, with that said, there are number of acne prevention techniques you can adopt to prevent acne from rearing its ugly head in the first place and keeping your skin looking clear and beautiful.

Most of the acne prevention techniques I will talk about are just plain old common sense things people neglect to do. For example, washing your face daily with mild soap and lukewarm water will prevent much of acne from forming on your face or forehead. However, many of us acne sufferers get too busy with our daily chores that we completely neglect to follow this simple yet very effective acne prevention technique. Regular face washing helps to remove much of the bacteria and acne causing debris. However, keep in mind that over using this technique can irritate your skin and make your skin condition worse.

Another acne prevention technique which in opinion is much underutilized is “regular cardiovascular exercise”. Not only does regular cardio exercise consisting of 20-30 minutes of Stairmaster or treadmill keep your body moving and fit, it forces your body to sweat; which in turn helps to unclog skin pores and prevent acne from flaring up. If you are not the “Gym Buff” type, and let’s face it, most of aren’t, consider adding “brisk walk” to your daily routine. Another acne prevention technique you may already be aware of or in my case guilty of is “popping unwanted pimples”. Given how easy it is to pop a pimple, resisting the temptation can be very difficult; but you must. The reason for this is simple, when you pop a pimple; you are helping the bacteria spread to uncontaminated skin areas allowing acne to spread. In addition, popping a pimple can make the acne wounds worse and can cause severe scarring.

Drinking 6-8 glasses of water is perhaps the simplest technique for preventing acne. Regular supply of fresh water helps the body remain healthy and hydrated. This helps the body fight many diseases including acne much more effectively. When the skin is kept hydrated, it does not dry out and start to shed. Shedding is one of the common causes of acne formation as it leads to clogging of the skin pores by dead skin cells.

Despite your best effort, you may come to a point where none of the aforementioned acne prevention techniques are effective at eliminating your acne. When this time comes, you need to seek sound advice from a medical professional such as your family doctor or a skin specialist such as a dermatologist. Another option you may consider is using a natural herbal acne treatment.

Acne prevention is an ongoing daily battle. But it is a battle that is possible to win. Find out some of the most effective strategies.

What Exactly is Acne?

Acne is a skin condition that involves the hair and oil glands. It is basically plugged pores. These are commonly known as blackheads, whiteheads or pimples. They occur mainly on the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders and upper arms but can occur anywhere on the body. Hair follicles, often called pores, get blocked with sebum (oil), which normally drains to the surface, and a bacteria begins to grow. Both whiteheads and blackheads start out as a “microcomedone” which then become skin blemishes called comedones. Acne can be upsetting, disfiguring, sometimes even leading to permanent scarring.

Thinking acne is a minor problem, some people tend to totally discard the topic of acne prevention. However, the importance of acne prevention should not be overlooked.

Acne Prevention Starts before an Outbreak

Acne prevention can and should really start much before the acne actually appears. Prevention is more about being proactive than reactive. It starts with following daily skin care routines with complete discipline.

Acne prevention starts with being clean. A hot morning shower is one of the most effective ways of keeping the skin clean. A shower before bed is a good idea also (it not only helps in keeping your skin clean but also relaxes your body for a good sleep.) If you are living in a hot and/or humid area, frequent showers are a must. Showers are the first and most effective acne prevention method.

However, while important, showers are often not enough all by themselves. Wearing clean clothes and sleeping on clean sheets and pillows can go a long way toward acne prevention. Loose clothes are good also because tight clothes can cause sweat to accumulate quickly. Comfortable cotton clothes are recommended.

Don’t forget to frequently clean or change your brushes, wash rags and any other grooming item you use on your body.

The Most Effective Acne Prevention Method

Always use a mild, water-soluble, soap-free and oil-free cleanser for keeping your face, neck and arms clean. This is the most important part of any acne prevention routine particularly in teenagers and those prone to outbreaks. A good face cleaner is the easiest and the most effective way of removing dirt, grease, pollutants and excess oil from your skin and unblocking your pores. It is also recommended that you remove your makeup using a make up remover before you go to bed (not in the morning.)

If you have an outbreak, do not try to squeeze them. This can lead to permanent scars. Continue to practice your acne prevention regimend of gentle cleansing and cleaning of the affected area using an over-the-counter medication and a clean/soft cotton pad. There are many good acne prevention creams and lotions available (a lot of these acne prevention products are actually cleansers).

If your acne prevention does not work and you have an servere outbreak, you may need to seek further more aggressive treatments.

Your granny might have told you about the rigorous life-style she stood by to keep acne at bay. She might also have some acne prevention tips to give you if she notices an acne or two – ‘go for natural cleansing diets minus spices,’ ‘have plenty of water,’ ‘take out time for regular skin-care,’ so on and so forth. Following these acne prevention tips definitely renders your skin excellent service – removing acne, preventing further attacks and scar formation.

It is not necessary, however, that the bitter acne-episode of your life will come to such an easy and rapid ending. In many cases, acne returns with increased severity. Actually, the hullabaloo surrounding acne prevention was based on a vague understanding of the acne condition. However, clogging of skin pores, overactive sebaceous glands, hormonal activity and a range of different factors have been associated with acne, with each factor perpetrating acne in different age groups and under different conditions.

With seemingly no escape from acne, the best way to handle your acne will be to go for a safe treatment as soon as they put up their first appearance. With hosts of available remedies like home treatments, topical treatments, hormone therapies and many non-prescription drugs, peels and lotions, your chances of shedding the acne-scale is nearly hundred percent. The advanced scar treatments and a little patience will be enough to take care of your acne scar before it starts bothering you.

If you want to see some real magic – not acne prevention but acne (along with scars) vanishing in just 2-3 days – you can try the TCA or Trichloroacetic Acid Skin Peel. Certified as ‘safe and most effective’ among peels by the medical fraternity, the effect of the TCA peels last for about 6 months. Recommended for adult acne, TCA peels tighten sagging skin to give you a fresh, young look too. Tca Peels have been proven to eliminate all acne causing bacteria, change skin pH so acne is less likely to form, and greatly improve or erase old acne scars.

Acne prevention might not always be possible for you, but preventing the acne condition from further deteriorating is something, which you always can! The best tip that will surely prevent acne from spreading is restraining yourself from squeezing or picking at the acne lesions.

Have you ever wondered how to prevent acne? There is an easy way to do this. The following article includes some excellent information about ways to prevent acne, however let’s describe a few basics about acne first.

Over time, many various and unique theories have appeared about how to prevent acne. Trust me, I have tried all of them! While I think that the majority of them do help to some degree, most of them are only theories, none of them works for all those facial types.

How to prevent acne becomes a lot more obvious once you really have it, and then attempt to clear it up utilizing the various methods. The strategies based on changing your diet seem to be those that actually work greatest for most people, whereas I seem to get the least amount of acne when I am less stressed.

There are lots of theories on how to prevent acne. Most appear to fall in three different categories that are diet, skin care, and tension. In my experience, tension could be the underlying motivator for the appearance of acne.

Here’s why:

Though there is not really a direct connection between eating, staying active, in regard to keeping your face clear, research has proven that lower tension contributes to preventing acne. Although exercise seems to become a great way of removing toxins out of your body, this is only a roundabout way of attacking the actual issue.

What tension does is upset the balance of your internal systems and your skin. It could improve the amount of sugar and adrenaline which will cause outbreaks within hours. Tension and skin care are much better areas to consider in regard to acne prevention.

Learn how to reduce my acne?

Simple. I make sure to take time every day to do what I want to do. I avoid people that I cannot stand. Most of all, get enough sleep. In my experience, if you sleep 10 – 12 hours straight, your body will naturally cleanse itself as you rest. If you do all of these things, and you will truly know the ways on how to prevent acne.

An additional thing that is very useful is making certain that you get enough vitamins. Some of the multivitamins that are commonly available at your local store will help your body by increasing the normal nutrients that it needs that might not be getting from your regular diet. I’ve noticed that by regularly taking my vitamins that it also helps to maintain and sometimes eliminate for a span of time any acne on my face.

By my research and personal experience, there is no other product that I have found doing better than Acne No More System. It is a genuinely natural cure for Acne, and treats the cause of it. So do you want to end the breakouts and get rid of acne within 7 days? Follow this link to know better and try Acne No More System for yourself.

The above are just a few ways to prevent acne which are taught in the book. So do you want to end the breakouts and get rid of acne overnight? Well then the ACNE No More will be the must read. Follow this link to find out the secret.

I really only get acne on my forehead, but I’ve tried proactiv and it doesn’t work for me! I’ve tried just about everything, but proactiv is supposed to work for everyone and it didn’t… Right now I’m using zapzyt, and it’s not really working either. I have more oily than dry skin, and get it mostly on forehead and temples, but right now I’m breaking out horribly… Forehead, temples, cheeks, and jawline. It’s AWFUL and I HATE it! So do you have any recommendations for my personal self? Someone suggested the zeno blemish prevention kit or the hot spot… so I was wondering if it’s worth the money/attempt to try it…?

Acne prevention sounds simple enough – buy some anti acne cream and watch it disappear. That sounds fine in theory but the truth is, everyone’s skin is different and expecting the same prevention cream to do the same job with everyone is asking a bit much.

There are plenty of myths doing the rounds about acne prevention and what works and what doesn’t but there are also plenty of truths which many may ignore simply because they are simple solutions. In this article, we’ll look at three acne prevention theories you may have heard and whether there is much truth to them.

Does Face Washing Stop Acne?

One of the most common myths concerning acne prevention is that you can head off a breakout by washing your face more often. While it is important to keep your skin clean to prevent acne, washing your face too often will lead to dry, irritated skin that can cause your breakouts to be even more uncomfortable that what they normally are.

While clean skin is important, you need some of the natural oils that are produced by your skin to be healthy. These oils will help to keep your skin soft and supple, and may even help reduce the irritation that is common with severe breakouts.

Antibiotics – How Effective Is It against Acne?

Does Diet Prevent Acne?
