Question by Lacey B: Acne Medication?
I have very painful cystic acne so my doctor put me on Doxycycline. It has helped prevent me from having painful breakouts, but I still have some stubborn ones above my chest and on my back. It has been almost a year since I started taking the medicine. Should I switch to a more powerful medication? Could these be MRSA boils?

Today, there are a lot of medications, both over the counter and prescription drugs, are used to clear acne. Common acne medications are usually topical or oral. Topical medications or those that are applied to the skin are usually prescribed for those with mild to severe acne. On the other hand, oral medications are usually part of a system of therapies that are used to treat severe and sometimes moderate acne.
These common acne medications usually attack a certain factor that leads to acne. As such, dermatologists usually combine them for a longer lasting effect.

Question by Christa H: Acne medication?
I’m considering using prescribed acne medication (I’ve tried all sorts of cleansers and eating healthy but I’ve still got acne). Can anyone recommend which medication to use? Please let me know how well it has worked for you, and if you had any side effects. Do I need to use it long term, or can I go on it until my acne clears up, then go off it again???

Question by Buff_Jeff: acne medication?
Do some medications make your acne worse before it gets better?I mean, does your body have to get used to the medication before it becomes effective? I’ve heard that many medications usually bring the acne to the surface so it can heal it or something, making it look worse before it gets better. Is this true?

Acne medication is the sole solution. That is, for those who have persistent acne problems that seem to be ignoring anything other cure you try on.
There are many acne medications currently on the market. Some of these are prescription medications, such as accutane. Others are over the counter acne medication, such as benzoyl peroxide.
Of all prescription acne medications, Accutane is one of the best. It is derived from vitamin A, and is often referred to as the “miracle drug” for acne. Accutane is most effective in the treatment of severe cystic acne, and not to be taken lightly.
For some people, the many side effects of Accutane can be worse than the acne itself. However, this is one treatment that works.

It’s no coincidence that one of the late Michael Jackson’s close friends was his long-time dermatologist, Dr. Arnold Klein. “Boy, I used to suffer,” Jackson once confessed to an interviewer, talking about his acne. “It got bad. It got real bad.” Jackson remembered regularly hiding in his bedroom to cry after being teased by a cousin about his “pimples”. Despite his success, Jackson found it difficult to face the public much of his life, often wearing hats and keeping his head down. “You can clear up physically,” he explained, but still mentally you’re scarred.” After Jackson’s death, Dr. Klein told interviewer Larry King that he had been helping the star “rebuild his face” to hide the severe acne scarring and plastic surgery scars in preparation for his upcoming This Is It tour.
Most of us suffer the occasional break out or blemish, even as adults. The average acne can be treated with over-the-counter medications, but acne like Jackson’s calls for prescription acne medication. The best acne medication on the market today for moderate to severe acne that has not responded to other treatment is Accutane.

I am fifteen years old, and I have suddenly broke out in acne on my forehead. It’s not severe but proactive or any other fash washes don’t work. I’m going to the doctors but I heard that when you take acne medication you can’t wax or else your skin will rip off. I wax every few weeks, my eyebrows and upperlip, so I can’t pluck. If I use YAZ birth control that is proven to treat acne, will I be able to wax?

Acne is the worst skin ailment to have as it makes people lose their self confidence. The best acne medication is to first understand what all may lead to acne and its growth.
The causes of acne can be many like puberty, bad lifestyle, oily and junk food, not having appropriate quantity of water or poor hygiene. At times acne is hereditary also. It’s very important to understand and acknowledge the reason for the cause of acne prior to treating it with medication.
Acne medication depends largely upon what kind of acne you are suffering from and with what severity you have been affected by acne. Mild acne does not require much of medication while moderate and severe acne may require heavy acne medication.
